The elk bulls bugle, and it echoes through
the valley. It is fall again and winter is not far away. The elk have begun
their ritual of fighting and chasing; it is all part of the play for the bulls
to obtain mating privileges. The cows come into heat and many changes come about
for the bulls. The hormones are raging and their necks will swell up to aid them
in fighting. The time of year is called the rut.
This bull has already established his herd be it ever so small it is his
for now. These bulls can loose their herds quickly if a much larger more agile
bull comes along- he may just take them. For
now this bull seems to be holding his own. The thing that was amazing in this
shot was the ultra intense red sunrise colors that spilled heavy on the elk and
every blade of grass and shrub as well. The
elk bull has his rack full of alder branches and he is covered in the glow of
the sunrise as his cow feeds on. I will always love what the sun does to the
earth when it begins spilling across its surface. This is one of the most
powerful elements known to man and it was truly a blessing to get to capture
this intense- “Colorado Mornin” Hope you enjoy
it. Thank you, David Wodiuk
