Elk cows are very valuable because without
elk cows you don’t have order in the herd. There are cows that lead herds all
the time, they are called lead or heard cows. I have seen them many times make
the first move and the rest follow immediately. This is really a special thing
in nature. Bulls do run the herd most of the time during the rut. They have to
keep their cows in the herd from straying outside his protective court. The
deeper you delve into it the more you realize that there is something much
greater than we can perceive and it leaves it up to the imagination wonderfully.
This cow is not actually a herd cow or lead, but is in transit just to get to
another feeding area. It is absolutely a treat when you get to see the
magnificent colors and the elk -
