Cat # MA-83-13

Every year there are a certain number of Calf Elk that will make it to see the hardship of winter. The small creatures have survived the cold rains of spring and summer. Not to mention what ever predators that they may have encountered. Now they are on the edge of winter. The calf is almost weaned but its mother still allows it a sip of milk to encourage body development and fat stores for the cold winter ahead.  I am always glad to see this cycle of life unfolding before me. It to me is the greatest gift. To have hope that there will be another generation for tomorrow and the tomorrows after that. It will always be our responsibility to try to allot for our natural history survivors. We are entrusted with their survival as well as ours. It has always seemed to me that when our wildlife is healthy we are a healthy people also. This is why I so much enjoy it when I happen to capture the awesome color and wonder of a – “Fall Cow-n-Calf” I hope you love this shot!

Thank You, David Wodiuk
