One of the most intense moments of my filming career and all my experiences of filming, encountering nature and her animals, would all add up one day to the meeting my son Jeremiah, Myself, and one of my close friends Mario had with one of the biggest cats in North America. It was a Mountain Lion, Cougar or Catamount. This day began with an early rise, making lunch, double checking camera gear then we were on our way to a trail near Rye, Colorado. The main reason for going to this region was to film a pair of Hummingbirds, nesting. Our intent was to document the flight in and out of the nest and the transfer of food to one another. As we were moving up the trail I noticed that there were deer tracks right in front of us and they were fresh. After a few photos of various butterflies I continued up the trail. My son and friend were looking off to the creek when I heard a crack of a branch up the hill and to the left. Then I seen it, huge tail, massive legs, sleek and beautiful. It finally stopped 30 yards front us, locked in this hunting pose. The camera was extracted from the case and the shot was captured on 100 speed Fuji chrome hand held at shutter 1/30 with aperture at 4.5.Upon the click of the shutter the cougar bolted into a run back up the mountain and disappeared. This moment was etched into my mind forever The power, grace, stealth, elegance and beauty are unsurpassed. But I will never forget eyes locked and frozen in time with a "Stalking Cougar."
